Duhamel Dominating Table

Jonathan Duhamel
Jonathan Duhamel

Jonathan Duhamel has been slowly but surely chipping up at his table, and he has just won a pot that not only makes him the big stack at the table, but one of the biggest in the room by our counts. When we got to the table, the whole board was dealt out {7-Clubs}{a-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}{10-Clubs}, and Duhamel slid out a bet of 1,250. His opponent thought for about 30 seconds before flinging in the call. Duhamel showed {7-Spades}{7-Hearts} for a flopped set, and it was good enough to take the pot and pad his chip stack.

Terry Toast

Livello 4 : 75/150, 0 ante

A woman opened to 325 from middle position and Todd Terry shoved on her immediate left for 1,400. Action folded back around to the original raiser, who called after some deliberation.

Terry: {A-Hearts}{10-Spades}
Opponent: {A-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}

The {K-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} gave Terry a good chance to double, however, his opponent went runner-runner flush as the {9-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} fell on the turn and river respectively - sending Terry to the rail.

Sean Getzwiller Picking Up Where He Left Off

Bracelet Winner Sean Getzwiller (Event # 8) Climbing T The Top Here On Day 1
Bracelet Winner Sean Getzwiller (Event # 8) Climbing T The Top Here On Day 1

Our intrepid PokerNews field reporter has spotted Sean Getzwiller in the field, and while his name might not be well-known to most poker fans, we have a feeling it will be when this year's WSOP is all said and done.

Getzwiller is coming off of his 1st place finish in Event # 8, the $1,000 No-Limit Hold'em tournament, as well as a final table appearance in Event # 24, the $5,000 No-Limit Hold'em Shootout. After winning his first WSOP bracelet, and coming so close to another just two weeks later, Getzwiller is sure to be mentioned in any Player of the Year discussion.

So far on Day 1 of this tournament, Getzwiller's rush shows no signs of slowing down, and he has quickly built his starting stack of 4,500 to over 15,000. Positioned near the top of the leaderboard right out of the gate, Getzwiller will be looking to continue his impressive 2011 WSOP with another deep run in this event.

Norman Massier Making It Happen

Livello 3 : 50/100, 0 ante

We caught up on a hand in which the small blind player shoved all-in over the top of a button raise made by Norman Massier. The all-in was instantly called by Massier, who flipped up {K-Spades}{K-Hearts}. His opponent groaned when he saw Massier's holding and showed down his {A-Spades}{Q-Spades} with a look of defeat written across his face.

The final board rolled out {J-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{J-Spades} and Massier's cowboys held up. His opponent hit the rail in disappointment and shook his head while saying to nobody in particular: "well, that's fifteen hundred dollars wasted."

While the fallen player may have left feeling unfulfilled, we will venture to guess that Norman Massier is fully enjoying $1,500 well spent.

Dwan Doing His Thing

Livello 3 : 50/100, 0 ante

Action folded around to the player on the button, who opened for 250. Dwan immediately shoved his stack in for about 3,600 and everyone folded. He then stacked his chips and began rushing over to the Amazon Room for day 2 of the H.O.R.S.E. event, which began at 3 p.m. PDT.

We'll keep an eye on Durrrr to see how well he juggles playing in two tournaments at once. Frank Kassela, who we already reported has built up a nice stack, has also left to continue his play in the H.O.R.S.E tournament, where he has just 6,100 left.

Lee Busts One

Livello 3 : 50/100, 0 ante

Bernard Lee raised to 275 and action folded to the big blind. He moved all in for 2,000 and Lee called with his {Q-Spades}{Q-Hearts}. HIs opponent held the {A-Clubs}{J-Hearts}. Board ran out {K-Spades}{J-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}{K-Clubs} to give Lee the pot and the elimination.

Up, Down, Back Up For Jaka

Livello 3 : 50/100, 0 ante

We reported very early in the day that Faraz Jaka had doubled up with quad sixes. Well since then, Jaka's stack was sliding, to the point that he was back below his starting stack at 4,000. But he has just found a double up, as Jaka got the last of his chips in preflop against an opponent, with Jaka in a dominating lead.

Jaka: {q-Hearts}{q-Spades}
Opponent: {j-Spades}{j-Clubs}

The board ran out {2-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{10-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}, and Jaka doubled back up to 8,000. Given how his day is going, we don't think that Jaka will stay at 8,000 for long.

Nguyen Nabs One

Livello 3 : 50/100, 0 ante

A player opened to 300 from middle position and found one caller in Men Nguyen from the cutoff.

The flop came {Q-Diamonds}{A-Clubs}{10-Clubs} and Nguyen's opponent c-bet for 500. Nguyen called. When the {7-Diamonds} fell on the turn, Nguyen's opponent checked, prompting a 500 bet from Nguyen himself. His opponent folded.

Nguyen flashed his cards to his opponent but then quickly slid them into the muck when someone else inquired about his holding.

"I had a big hand! Two-pair and nut flush draw." Nguyen said.

Kassela Climbing

Livello 3 : 50/100, 0 ante

We didn't see the hand that got him all his chips, but we just walked by 2010 POY Frank Kassela and saw that he had over 12,000 in chips. We'll be sure to keep a close eye on him as the day progresses.
