One Born Every Minute

Livello 13 : 1,500/3,000, 0 ante

You're always going to come across some colorful characters here at the World Series of Poker - after all, it's the biggest opportunity for anybody to become an instant superstar almost overnight.

Everyone wants a bracelet. Everyone wants their moment in the sun. Everyone wants to be noticed. But for one particular individual on table 372, he's acting up quite a lot for a guy that doesn't want to be identified. He's refused to give his name on more than one occasion to our reporters and has even hidden his PokerNews Tournament ID tracking card. So we're going to call him Mr. Hipster.

Mr. Hipster has been constantly bouncing around in his seat, flinging chips into the pot with reckless abandon, singing loudly along to the music blaring through his headphones and talking a lot of smack, so much so, that his tablemates are beginning to wonder whether or not hitting a player (in his case) could be considered "frowned upon".

Fortunately, he's been put back in his place after losing two pots in succession to Jim Meehan and Raymond Hinde. After Meehan's {8-Spades}{8-Clubs} held up against his {A-Diamonds}{K-Hearts} to double through him, Mr. Hipster then went three-handed to a flop of {K-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{9-Clubs} against Hinde and William Davis. "Two old-timers have me in a sandwich," Mr. Hipster sang.

Davis opened the betting to Mr. Hipster who quickly raised. Hinde called, as did Davis and so it was off to the turn of the {3-Hearts}. Davis checked, Mr. Hipster bet, Hinde flat-called and Davis folded, making it heads-up to the river of the {J-Diamonds}.

Mr. Hipster opened, but Hinde snap-raised.

"So sick!" Mr. Hipster cried, pounding his fist into the table. "No way he's hit the nut flush on the river ... so sick!"

Mr. Hipster then melodramatically threw his hand away and Hinde smiled wryly as he raked in the pot. Mr. Hipster is now down to 40,000 in chips and there's a feeling amongst those around him that they'd rather see him with nothing left - and soon.

Liu Refuses to be Felted

Livello 13 : 1,500/3,000, 0 ante
J.J. Liu
J.J. Liu

Being down to her final 5,000 in chips, JJ Liu called a raise from the big blind and saw a flop of {J-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}. Liu led out and was called by Michael Moore. The {8-Diamonds} turned and JJ checked to Moore who bet her all in. Liu called tabling the {A-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} for ace high. Thankfully for Liu, she was ahead of Moore's {K-Clubs}{5-Spades}. The {3-Clubs} that hit the river was of no help to Moore and Liu doubled through.

A mere few hands later, we caught up to see Moore heads up in another hand with Liu where he bet on a {7-Hearts}{5-Spades}{8-Clubs} flop. Liu raised and Moore made the call. The {6-Hearts} fell on the turn and Liu through out a bet that was called by Moore. When the {9-Spades} hit the river and made a straight on the board, Liu moved her last bet in the middle for her all in, and Moore made the call.

Moore turned up {9-Clubs}{7-Clubs} for the straight on the board, but was heartbroken to see Liu turn over {10-Hearts}{10-Clubs} for a bigger straight, drilling her three-outer on the river.

Scholl Picks Up Aces, Sends Watkins Home

Livello 13 : 1,500/3,000, 0 ante

Benjamin Scholl sent Abraham Watkins to the rail with his pocket aces.

Watkins opened up the betting and was called by Scholl pre flop. The board came {8-Spades}{3-Clubs}{q-Clubs}. Scholl checked, Watkins bet, Scholl raised, Watkins three-bet, and Scholl called. The turn came {10-Spades}. Scholl bet and Watkins moved all in for his remaing chips. Scholl showed {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds} and Wakins flipped up {a-Spades}{8-}. The {j-Diamonds} came on the river.

Scholl now sits with a little over 30,000 in chips.

Iacofano Steals From Nacho

Livello 13 : 1,500/3,000, 0 ante
Nacho Barbero (from Day 1): still has plenty of chips
Nacho Barbero (from Day 1): still has plenty of chips

Argentinian Team PokerStars Pro Jose "Nacho" Barbero found himself donating some chips to Kevin Iacofono, but he's still cruising with over 89,000 in chips as the remaining 77 players keep on grinding here in the Amazon Room.

The action folded around to Iacofono who raised from the cutoff preflop; Barbero was the only caller and so it was heads-up to the flop of {J-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}. Barbero check-called Iacofono after the flop, but quickly check-folded after Iacofono's bet on the turn of the {10-Hearts}.

It seems that Iacofono may have taken a few more big pots from Barbero earlier on in the day, because the staredown afterwards would have made Medusa turn to stone. Still, Iacofono's not fussed - he's now on 56,000 in chips and climbing.

Kim Doubles His Stack

Livello 13 : 1,500/3,000, 0 ante

Jason Kim, one of our chip leaders going into today's play, found himself down to his last chips in a recent hand. He three-bet himself all in and was called.

Kim: {A-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}
Opponent:{A-Hearts}{3-Hearts}

The board ran out {K-Spades}{J-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{5-Spades} and Kim doubled through, but is still hanging on for dear life in this tournament with around 20,000.

Also our field continues to shrink as Thomas Cerabino, Albert Minnullin, and the "Poker Diva" Liz Lieu hit the rail.

Fong Doubles Up

Livello 13 : 1,500/3,000, 0 ante

Michael Fong doubled up with {a-Spades}{5-Diamonds} against Ron Freitag.

Freitage opened up the betting pre flop with a raise and was reraised by Fong. Freitage called and the flop came up {6-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{2-Hearts}. Fong bet, Freitag called and the turn came the {a-Clubs}. Fong bet all in for his last 300 chips when Freitage called and mucked his hand into the pile. The floor was called and the ruling was that in an all in situation both cards must be turned up.

Freitage's cards were retrieved from the muck and he showed {10-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}. The river brought an insignificant {k-Spades}.

Fong sits with around 35,000 chips.

Rush for Arash

Livello 13 : 1,500/3,000, 0 ante

Arash Yazdanpanah (let's just call him "Yaz" for short) has soared up the chip counts, moving to second overall behind Sean Nguyen after taking down a big pot over on table 359.

The action folded around to Yaz who raised from the button before Cyriel Dohman called from the small blind, as did Barry Shulman from the big blind, to make it three-handed to a flop of {8-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{A-Clubs}.

Dohman and Shulman checked their option, but Yaz fired out another bet. Dohman was the only caller, but he then check-folded after Yaz opened the betting again on the turn of the {4-Hearts}.

Dohman is now running on fumes with just 7,000 in chips, while Shulman still has a little wiggle room with just over 30,000. However, Yaz is clearly the table captain with more than 94,000 in his stack!

Sketchy Hand for Stencil

Livello 13 : 1,500/3,000, 0 ante

In one of the first hands after the break, Steve Stencil came out second best against Arkadiy Tsinis over on table 367.

Tsinis raised from UTG +1 preflop and the action folded around to Stencil who called from the big blind, before check-calling Tsinis on both the flop of {K-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{3-Hearts} and the turn of the {5-Diamonds}.

Both players then checked the river {9-Hearts} before Tsinis showed down {a-Clubs}{7-Clubs}; that was enough for Stencil to kick his hand into the muck.

Tsinis is up to 42,000, but Stencil is still sitting comfortably with 43,000. The same can't be said for Dustin Graves, whose PokerNews Tournament ID tracking card has just come across our desk here in media row. That's never a good sign.
