We've officially closed the books on the first day of the $1,500 Limit Hold'em event! Today's field began with 675 players and we played down to the final 130 today. At the end of ten levels of play, Chris Tryba emerged as our Day One chip leader, finishing the day with 67,300 in chips. Close behind are Jason Kim with 59,900 and Sean Nguyen with 55,500.
Today's field started out slow in terms of big name professional players, but by the day's end we ended up with a field packed full of notables. Some thrived and some faltered in the face of this $1,500 Limit Hold'em event. Among those that fell out of the running today include Daniel Negreanu, Jean-Robert Bellande, Allen Cunningham, Joe Sebok, Steve Billirakis, and Phil Gordon.
However, while many big names were eliminated from the field, there still remained players who rose to the top and survived on to compete in Day 2. Among those moving on are Barry Shulman, Tom Schneider, Matt Matros, Chino Rheem, and the femme fatales Jennifer Harman and J.J. Liu. Each of these players has a shot of grabbing the event's top prize of $205,065 and it will be interesting to see who rises to the top during day two play.

We started with 135 players in the last three hands, and we ended up with all 135 players after the last three hands. Sometimes, we'll have a flurry of last-minute attempts to double up, but in this case, it was a more sedate finish.

We got to the table in time to see Jean-Robert Bellande contemplating moving the rest of his stack in on a board of 
. A pot committed Bellande stuck the rest of his stack in and was called by his opponent's 
. Bellande's 
was looking for an ace or a non-jack diamond, but the river came up short and he was eliminated. Bellande graciously shook hands with the players at his table before departing from the Pavilion.

Leo Torosyan has been cut back to 28,500 in chips after losing a big pot to Sean Nguyen.
The action was heads-up on a board that read

As a result, Nguyen has catapulted to the top of the counts, now being dwarfed by a stack worth more than 58,000 in chips!

After a player opened for a raise from the cutoff and a player called from the small blind, 2009 WSOPE Main Event Champion and CEO of CardPlayer Magazine, Barry Shulman, three-bet from the big blind and was called by both players.
The flop fell 
and the small blind checked to Shulman who led out. The cutoff laid it down and the small blind made the call. The turn was a 
and Shulman's opponent once again checked to him. After Shulman fired a second bullet, his opponent decided to raise and Shulman made the call. The was laid out on the river and and the small blind decided to throw out a bet this time. Shulman called but was dejected to see his opponent flip up 
. "If you're just calling it's not good enough to win it" said Shulman's opponent as his full house was moved up to the center of the table and the chips were pushed away from Shulman's direction.
This hand left Shulman with 29,100 in chips.

JJ Liu has chipped up through Chris Tryba as we reach the business end of Day 1 of Event #6 at the Rio.
We caught the action on a flop that read 
; two players in early position both checked to Tryba who opened the betting. Liu was the only caller, so it was heads-up the turn of the .
Tryba check-called Liu's bet and check-called again after the dealer produced the river 
. Liu showed down 
for two pair and Tryba mucked his hand.
Both players are now holding stacks worth 33,000 in chips.
There's been a fair amount of movement across the chip counts, with Eric Lopez storming up to first place with 51,500 in chips, just ahead of Leo Torosyan, who's not far behind with 48,500. Damien Leforbes, Paul Schumer, Chris Overgard and Chris Tryba are also staking their claim for a top ten spot.
Only 153 players remain with 45 minutes to go in the final level of play.
