Heartberg's Hurt But Ospina's Heart-Broken

Livello 16 : 3,000/6,000, 0 ante

It was heads-up action into a flop that read {J-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}; Paul Schumer checked his option from the small blind to Jeremy Heartberg who opened the betting from the cutoff. Schumer called and then check-called Heartberg's bet on the turn of the {6-Hearts} before both players checked their option on the river of the {5-Spades}.

Schumer rolled up {A-Diamonds}{J-Clubs} and Heartberg sent his hand into the muck. Both players are still well in contention, but it's not the case for Daniel Ospina, whose anguished cries went up right behind our field reporter.

"Floor! I need a floor!" he groaned. "I'm out - I'm supposed to get someone to take me somewhere, or something?"

Hopefully his collection from the cage might cheer him up somewhat.

Barbero Takes a Hit

Livello 16 : 3,000/6,000, 0 ante

Jose Barbero took a hit back down to 82,000 when he ran into Chung Law's straight.

Chung started the preflop action with a raise, Barbero reraised, and Chung called. The flop came down {8-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{q-Clubs}. Barbero bet and Chung called. A {q-Spades} hit on the turn, and Barbero bet, Chung raised, and Barbero reraised Chung all-in.

Chung flipped up {10-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} and Barbero showed {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}. Barbero was looking for an ace or queen on the flop but couldn't get there when the {k-Diamonds} fell on the river.

"...I'm stuck!"

Livello 16 : 3,000/6,000, 0 ante

Our mysterious "Mr. Hipster" over at table #372 has been louder and more vocal than ever since we've hit the money and electronic devices have been banned from the tournament floor. In passing, we caught a member of his table saying the following:

"I've never been tested so much with a person sitting next to me. In a cash game it's fine 'cause you can just move, but now I'm stuck!"

Not more than five minutes later "Mr. Hipster" led out on a board of {5-Hearts}{4-Spades}{J-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}{2-Spades}. He was raised by Daniel Ospina and after some discrepancies about how much was in the pot, "Mr. Hipster" announced "It doesn't matter, I don't care. I don't care anymore, I reraise".

Ospina made the call and "Mr. Hipster" immediately tabled {5-Spades}{5-Clubs} for trip fives, which beat out Ospina's top two with {K-Clubs}{J-Spades}. This hand knocked Ospina down to around 29,000.

Only time will tell if the bombastic tactics of "Mr. Hipster" will work in his favor or not.

Denotaristefani Sent Packing

Livello 16 : 3,000/6,000, 0 ante

Matt Matros, the defending champion of this event and Domenico Denotaristefani were involved in a hand that sent Denotaristefani to the rail.

Pre flop action started when Matros bet, Denotaristefani raised, and Matros called. The flop ran out {6-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{10-Spades}. Matros checked, Denotaristefani bet, Matros raised, and Denotaristefani three-bet all in. The defending champion called. The board played out with the {5-Clubs} on the turn, and the {5-Hearts} on the river.

Matros sits with 56,000 in chips.

Color Up!

Livello 15 : 2,500/5,000, 0 ante

Play has now stopped briefly to color off the many black 100 chips in play before beginning the 16th level with 3,000-6,000 limits.

Idema Sends One Home

Livello 15 : 2,500/5,000, 0 ante

After a total of three bets preflop, we found Garry Smith all in against Tom Brownscombe and Daniel Idema. The flop fell {9-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}. Brownscombe checked to Idema bet into a sidepot of about 2,500. Brownscombe made the call. The turn brought the {K-Hearts} and it once again went check-bet-call. The {6-Clubs} fell on the river and, predictably, Brownscombe checked to Idema who fired one more bet that Brownscombe eventually called after some posturing.

Idema tabled the {K-Clubs}{Q-Clubs} for top pair and Brownscombe frustratedly sent his cards into the muck. Garry Smith flipped over his {A-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds} to let everyone know that he had Idema crushed preflop, and dejectedly gathered his belongings for his trek to the rail.

This hand brings Idema's chip count up to 153,000 and his has become our chip leader.

Slow Going ...

Livello 15 : 2,500/5,000, 0 ante

The remaining 53 players have slowed to a crawl now and we've been hard-pressed to find any action - just to give you an idea of how slow it is, the best we've been able to come up is a small pot between Daniel Ospina and Fred Hansen.

Hansen raised from UTG +1 before the flop and the action folded around to Ospina who reraised from the small blind. Hansen called, then opened the betting after a flop of {J-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{J-Spades}. Ospina quickly folded.

Earlier, the floor staff broke up another table just after the eliminations of Jeffrey Fraustein, Kevin Iacofono and Timothy Finne. Fraustein finished up in 56th place, while Iacofono bowed out in 55th place, both good for a $2,961 payday. However, Finne was the first player to the next pay jump, collecting $3,480.

Idema Flops Set

Livello 15 : 2,500/5,000, 0 ante

Daniel Idema continues to grow his chip stack after coming back from the dinner break. He opened up the betting pre-flop and got a caller in Tom Brownscombe.

The flop ran out {a-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}. Brownscombe checked, Idema bet, Brownscombe raised and Idema called. The turn brought the {4-Diamonds}. Brownscombe led out and Idema flat called. The {3-Diamonds} fell on the river and Brownscombe let out again. This time Idema raised and Brownscombe called.

Idema took down the pot when he flipped up {8-Clubs}{8-Spades}. He has 153,000 in front of him.
