Play has concluded on Day 1 of Event #19: $2,500 No-Limit Hold'em Freezeout at the 2023 World Series of Poker, and after 17 levels of action, Dinesh Alt has surged among the chip leaders by bagging 1,212,000.

A total of 1,139 entries, which surpassed last year’s entry total of 752 participants, generated a prize pool worth $2,529,825. The bubble burst at 172 players in Level 19. Play resumed through that level, and 144 participants bagged as the curtain came down on Day 1.

In addition to Alt, others who enjoyed a fruitful Day 1 and finished in the top ten included Jared Jaffee (780,000), Artem Metalidi (761,000), Adrian Mateos (758,000), and Taylor Paur (624,000).

Some of the other stars to look out for in our Day 2 updates include Matt Stout (342,000), Alexandre Reard (338,000), Marton Czuczor (337,000), Mike Sowers (288,000), Maurice Hawkins (246,000), and Niall Farrell (220,000), the latter being a Triple Crown winner.

On the flip side, the tournament saw its fair share of high-profile casualties over 17 levels. Poker Hall of Famer and 16-time WSOP bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth headlines a group that includes WSOP bracelet winners Kathy Liebert, Chanracy Khun and Koray Aldemir, among others, to be sent to the rail. Long-time pro Maria Ho also didn’t survive.

Play is scheduled to resume at noon local time on June 8 inside the Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas. The players are scheduled to play a total of 10 hour-long levels. Blinds will resume at 5,000/10,000 with a 10,000 ante.

The PokerNews team will be there providing all the live updates and chip counts as the field continues to get whittled down on Day 2.

Day 1 Completed With 144 Survivors

Livello 17 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

An unofficial 144 players have bagged up for the night and will return at noon local time to determine the ten-handed final table. Full chip counts and a recap of today's action are to follow.

Pavlov Among Late Casualties

Livello 17 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

Atanas Pavlov headed out of the tournament area and recalled his final hand, in which he had to settle for the min cash. According to Pavlov, he raised with the AK in the cutoff and the player in the small blind jammed for 300,000 with J10 to hit a straight.

Another late casualty was recorded by Xuming Qi, who knocked out a short stack with A7 versus Q7. Both players hit a seven on the J847J runout.

Among the late eliminations were also the likes of David Klein, Jonathan Jaffe, Sundiata DeVore, Sebastien Grax, Ari Engel, and Jake Schwartz.

Three More Hands for Tonight

Livello 17 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

As expected, the last few minutes before the bubble burst reduced the field by more than a dozen contenders and there was a waiting line at the payout desk. Some of those who departed included Yuval Bronshtein, Joe Balgwin, David Jackson, James Tilton, Femi Fashakin, and Jeffrey Stellwagon.

Three more hands will be completed on each table before all those with chips at their disposal bag and tag for the night.

The Bubble Bursts Just Before the End

Livello 17 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

With 15:29 minutes left on the clock, two players were eliminated and shared the min-cash.

One of them is Ran Ilani, who got it in preflop for around 100,000 with the AQ. Lucien Silveira looked him up with the 99 and the pocket pair held up on a KJ256 board to burst the bubble.

It is expected that Day 1 will conclude shortly when the clock is stopped at around 10 minutes left for the final hands to be drawn.

Hand-For-Hand on the Bubble Underway

Livello 17 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

Nicholas Palma was in the big blind faced an open raise to 16,000 by Romain Lewis. "I am not going to fold if I find something," Palma promised right before the three-bet of Patrick Liang on the button for 42,000 followed; the dealers were then instructed to stop after their current hand.

That indicated the start of bubble play, and Palma folded, praising the "voice from above" for it.

David Uvaydov saw his stack cut down at the same time when he bet 100,000 on the river of a Q9222 board, only for Byung Eun Shin to jam with the superior stack. Uvaydov folded and dropped to a shorter stack.

Last but not least, Maurice Hawkins tried a move on the 433J7 river and bet 35,000. Valentino Konakchiev check-called and was good with the 94, as Hawkins only had 62.
