Event #19: $2,500 No-Limit Hold'em Freezeout
Giorno 1 iniziato
The 2023 World Series of Poker at Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas enters the second week, which brings with it new opportunities to compete for one of the coveted WSOP gold bracelets. Among them is also Event #19: $2,500 No-Limit Hold'em Freezeout, set to get underway at 12 noon local time.
One year ago, this tournament attracted a field of 752 entries for a total prize pool of $1,673,200. The top 113 finishers earned a portion of the prize money and American poker pro Scott Seiver earned his fourth gold bracelet after defeating Alexander Farahi in heads-up play. The victory came with a payday of $320,059 and Seiver narrowly missed out on a fifth career bracelet soon after when finishing second in Event #38: $10,000 No-Limit 2-7 Lowball Draw Championship.
Mixed game and high-stakes specialist Seiver has more than $25 million in cashes to his name, of which more than $6 million come from 64 results at the WSOP and two at the WSOPE. He has already participated in events of the 2023 series in Sin City, but not recorded any deep runs yet.
Further finalists one year ago included Aditya Agarwal, Chris Hunichen, Lewis Spencer, Nick Schulman, Sergio Aido, Steve Zolotow, and David Goodman. Among them, Schulman already made the headlines during the ongoing festival after he earned his fourth bracelet in Event #9: $1,500 Seven Card Stud three days ago.
All participants receive 35,000 in chips and there will be a 20-minute break every three levels with a 60-minute dinner break scheduled at the end of level 9 at approximately 6:40 p.m. local time. The tournament features a total of 17 levels of 40 minutes each on Day 1, during which the money stages may be reached. Late registration for this freezeout tournament is open for the first 12 levels and following break until approximately 10 p.m.
As of Day 2, the level duration increases to 60 minutes each with ten levels scheduled or until the ten-handed unofficial final table has been reached, whichever comes first.
Stay tuned right here on PokerNews as the chase for one of the highly-sought after WSOP gold bracelets in Las Vegas continues.
Players are taking their seats and cards are officially in the air for Day 1 of Event #19: 2,500 No Limit Hold’em Freezeout.
This marks the first of 17 levels the participants will play. Late registration ends after Level 12.

Picking up the action on the A♠Q♠8♥ flop, Anthony Harnden check-raised from 400 to 1,100 and was called by Michael Katz. That led them to the 8♦ turn on which both checked. Harnden bet the 5♣ river for 2,300 and Katz reluctantly called to get shown the A♣8♣ for a full house.

The tables aren’t full yet as players continue to make their way to their seat, but some players are adding chips to their stacks even in 4- or 5-handed play.
Phil Melancon is an example.
On a board showing K♥Q♦6♥J♣2♥, Melancon led out with a 4,000 bet. A player to his immediate left called by tossing out a 5,000 chip. The next player to act paused to study the board, then took a few moments to ponder the situation before eventually also calling.
Melancon tabled A♥8♥ for the nut flush. The other two players mucked their hands as the 13,000-plus pot was pushed to Melancon.

Eric Fields had clicked it back to 2,600 only for Ben Ludlow to make it 5,600 to go out of the small blind on a four-handed table. That forced out Daniel Jones while Fields called. Ludlow continued for 3,000 on the 5♥5♣3♦ flop and received a call before he then bet another 7,000 on the K♦ turn. Fields gave it some consideration and folded.

"He got me covered?" Junhyoung Ki inquired and once the dealer confirmed, the South Korean player headed to the rail to potentially become the first casualty in the tournament. His chips were shipped over to Scott Ko and it was the most classic of setups to cause the knockout.
Ki's K♥K♦ were dominated by the A♦A♥ of Ko and nothing changed on the 7♦7♠6♠7♥9♠ runout.
