And On His Cards He Had a Rooster, E-I-E-I-O!

Livello 6 : 250/500, 50 ante

When we scanned the list of players who would be starting the day in the blue section we noticed that Table #296 had a couple of recognizable names including Matt Waxman, Kenny Nguyen and ... Ronald McDonald?

We've confirmed that the player in the 1 seat at that table is in fact named identically to the McDonald's mascot. Our reporter's heads were already swimming with fast-food-related puns and then we noticed that his card protector is a small figurine of a rooster. Please excuse us as we now have "Old McDonald" jokes trying to escape our typing fingers as well.

McDonald started the day with just shy of 40,000 in chips and we'll be keeping an eye on him throughout the day.

Unusual Three Streets of Value for Song

Kevin Song raised to 1,700 under the gun and the button re-raised to 3,000. Song made the call and then check-called his opponent’s bet of 3,000 on the {9-Hearts}{5-Spades}{3-Clubs} flop. On the {9-Spades} turn, Song again check-called a bet, this time for 5,000. When the {8-Diamonds} hit the river, Song checked one last time and his opponent threw in a final bet of 5,000.

Song took a minute or two before he eventually made the call and the button said, “Good call, king high” as he showed {K-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}. Song was a bit confused at first as he thought he heard king-nine which would have been trips but then realized this wasn’t the case and the {J-Spades}{J-Diamonds} for jacks up that he turned over was good to win the pot.

Boatman Taking On Water

In early position, Ross Boatman opened the pot to 1,250, and Jonas Klausen made the call from the small blind. In the big, though, Raymond Rahme squeezed in a reraise to 4,500. Boatman was undeterred, and he four-bet right back up to 16,250. That folded Klausen out of the way, but Rahme spent some time in the tank before announcing a covering all-in. That sent Boatman deep into the tank, and he let out a sheepish grin as he pondered the decision. He had almost half his chips in the pot already. He mumbled to himself, asked the dealer to spread the pot, gave that I-must-not-have-the-best-hand look, and slid his cards into the muck.

Nor-thug Life

Livello 6 : 250/500, 50 ante

Olympic skiing gold medalist Petter Northug has yet to turn up today to Pavilion Black #3, seat 3. The Norwegian sportsman finished in 653rd place in last year's main event but he might want to turn up if he thinks he has a chance to do better this year.

Shorty Sica Succumbs

We caught up with the action heads up on an {A-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} flop where Mike Sica led for 1,200 in the cutoff. The big blind came back with a check-raise to 4,200 and Sica moved all in for around 10,000 total. The big blind made the call as the players turned up their cards.

Sica: {A-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}
BB: {Q-Hearts}{6-Hearts}

Sica had flopped top pair with the nut flush draw but was behind his opponent’s bottom two pair. The {K-Hearts} on the turn gave Sica an inside-straight draw as well but the {8-Spades} on the river bricked for him and he was eliminated.

Alexander Chipping Up

Livello 6 : 250/500, 50 ante

With the board already reading {a-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{3-Hearts} the under-the-gun player had bet 6,025 and Jason Alexander called. When the river brought the {7-Diamonds} the first player relinquished control of the hand by checking and Alexander took the opportunity to bet 10,000. The first player went into the tank looking completely stumped about what to do. He put his hand on his forehead and took another quick glance at his cards before deciding to fold.

With that pot Alexander's stack was up to around 87,000.

Mattern Chipping Up

Livello 6 : 250/500, 50 ante

Picking the action up on a {j-Spades}{3-Spades}{4-Hearts}{4-Clubs} board, Arnaud Mattern called the 3,100-chip bet from his opponent. The river was the {k-Diamonds} and this time the player out of position bet 6,100. Again, Mattern made the call and his opponent could only show {a-Hearts}{9-Hearts}. Mattern tabled {a-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds} to chip up to 41,000.

Moor Chips For Moorman

Livello 6 : 250/500, 50 ante

Action began when a player in middle position opened to 1,150. Chris Moorman three-bet to 3,250 from the small blind and the original raiser made the call.

The flop came down {Q-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{K-Clubs} and Moorman continued out with a bet of 3,500. Once again the middle position player made the call. The {3-Clubs} hit the turn and the action was checked by both players. The {J-Hearts} hit the river and Moorman made a pot sized bet. His opponent folded and Moorman took the pot down.
